Granite is a coarse-grained igneous rock found at the Earth’s surface. Granite is strong enough to bear heavy weight, resists most abrasion, is resistant to extreme weather conditions and accepts a brilliant polish. It is used for countertops, vanities, tiles, fireplaces, tub surrounds, buildings, bridges and many more indoor and outdoor projects.
Quartz is the most widely distributed mineral found on the surface of the Earth. Quartz as a slab is engineered, containing 93% natural quartz and 7% resin. Quartz is a very strong and durable stone. It is used mainly for countertops, tub surround, vanities, walls, etc. It is not recommended to be used outdoors or exposed to high temperatures.
Marble is a crystalline carbonate rock that accepts a great polish. It is formed when limestone is under great heat and pressure for years and the crystals begin to enlarge. It is one of the more delicate stones. Marble is used for vanities, fireplaces, tub surrounds, tiles, etc. It can also be used for kitchen countertops but it is not recommended because it scratches and stains easily.
Glass is an extremely sturdy alternative to granite, marble or quartz. It can be recycled and placed in concrete such as Icestone. In this form it behaves similarly to marble, it is porous, and needs to be treated. It's unique patterns and colors make in eye catching and complimentary to different designs. It is also available in a crystallized form, where it's none porous and harder than granite.
Soapstone is a metamorphic rock that is composed primarily of talc. It is very soft and has a soapy feel. Soapstone is nonporous, heat, acid, and alkaline resistant. It is used mainly for fireplaces and hearths, but it also looks beautiful on countertops.
Quartzite is a metamorphic rock composed almost entirely of quartz. It is an extremely tough stone and has course texture. Quartzite is one of the most physically durable and chemically resistant rocks found on the surface of the Earth. It is used for countertops, tiles, stairs, fireplaces and many indoor and outdoor projects.
Onyx is a crystalline form of quartz that is formed by the deposits of cold solutions. Onyx usually has bands or veins running through the center of the stone. It is used mostly for tub surrounds, vanities, table tops, shower surrounds and counters.
Travertine is a sedimentary rock that is formed in hot springs or in limestone caves. The stone is generally solid but has some pore spaces. A polished travertine will have some holes filled with a matching color cement fill. It is very resistant to heat. Travertine is used for table tops, tiles, fireplaces, shower surrounds and can be used for outdoor projects.
